A TASTE OF EUROPE IN SMITHFIELD

European Café & Restaurant Opens on Douglas Pike

 

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. – October 3, 2008 - There is a new restaurant in town that is bringing a bit of Europe to Smithfield. European Café & Restaurant has opened its doors and patio to customers throughout the area. Elia Nassios, restaurant owner, could not be happier. “We wanted to recreate the feel of European cafés, where you can sit and relax while enjoying your meal or drinks with family and friends,” he stated. “We want to provide our patrons with quality food at good prices.” 

Nassios is no stranger to the restaurant industry. He and his family grew up in the food industry, and have over 30 years’ experience. His father owned and operated restaurants and pizza chains throughout the greater Boston area. His mother still makes the homemade tzatziki sauce featured on the menu.

The menu offers a variety of choices ranging from traditional Greek fare to American favorites. Appetizers include such items as a Greek Mezza Platter, Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail, and Baked Feta. Entrees include Lamb Chops, a variety of pasta dishes, Marinated Steak Tips, and Swordfish Francaise. The restaurant also offers a range of salads, sandwiches, and wraps; fish & chips are also available on Fridays only.

European Café & Restaurant also offers a full bar with a variety of specialty drinks and coffees, from a “Greek Martini” to Greek coffee to iced cafe frapés - all of which can be enjoyed by the indoor fireplace or outdoors on the fireplaced patio. The authentic European-style coffees have been created from the same recipes used in some of the finest cafés in the Greek Islands. Desserts include tiramisu, cheesecake, and Galaktobuoriko, a traditional Greek dessert of lemon custard baked in a flaky filo pastry crust.

The restaurant is open seven days a week from 7:00 a.m. until 1:00 a.m., and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast menu offerings range from Eggs Benedict to French toast and pancakes. “We wanted to offer diners the ability to have breakfast al fresco!” adds Nassios.

European Café & Restaurant is located at 645 Douglas Pike (Rte. 7) in Smithfield, R.I.  Open seven days a week from 7:00 a.m. until 1:00 a.m., the restaurant offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner with specials available each day; it also offers take out dining choices. The fireplaced patio allows for casual yet intimate outdoor dining. The restaurant seats 60 indoors, with additional seating available on the patio; entertainment is offered during the week as well as on weekends.  “We hope you will enjoy your dining experience with us, and find a little piece of Europe here in our neighborhood,” states Elia Nassios.
